The Trans-Atlantic and Intra-American slave trade databases are the culmination of several decades of independent and collaborative research by scholars drawing upon data in libraries and archives around the Atlantic world. The Voyages website itself is the product of three years of development by a multi-disciplinary team of historians, librarians, curriculum specialists, cartographers, computer programmers, and web designers, in consultation with scholars of the slave trade from universities in Europe, Africa, South America, and North America.
We were so pleased to welcome Nafees M. Khan to the show to talk about this amazing project that is essential for anyone researching the origins of their enslaved African lines.
We cover the history of the project and how it came into being. We also delve into the content of the online database – and the details that each slave ship entry contains – the Trans-Atlantic slave trade… and so much more.
